Women’s Tennis Edged by Monmouth in Tight Contest
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's tennis team (0-1) narrowly fell to Monmouth (1-1), 4-3, in a tightly contested match to open the season on Saturday. The Terriers and Hawks split singles play (3-3), but Monmouth gained the final advantage in the match by taking two out of three on the doubles side. Sophomore Jean-Na Koo put forth an impressive performance from the Terriers' No. 1 singles position this afternoon. Koo defeated Monmouth's top singles competitor Alexandra Graff in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). Koo picked up right where she left off last spring as she was named to the All-NEC Rookie team and compiled a (12-6) overall record during her freshman campaign. Sandra Siles Polo and Ana Orozco both picked up wins in singles play for St. Francis Brooklyn. Siles Polo earned the victory over Monmouth's Rachel Rosenthal out of the No. 4 singles position (2-6, 6-1, 6-3). Orozco rolled to a (6-1, 6-0) win over Sydney DeNardo at No. 6 singles. The Hawks bested the Terriers in doubles play winning two out of the three matchups. St. Francis' Siles Polo and Runsi Patro earned a shutout victory (6-0) against Monmouth's duo of Chinonye Gabriel and DeNardo at No. 3 doubles. SINGLES RESULTS: 1. J. Koo (SFBK) def. A.
