Brockport Football - Game Four Preview
he last time these two teams met, the Golden Eagles upset the Cardinals for the first time in the Courage Bowl. This will mark the fifth season that Brockport will participate in the event, hopefully taking over as the reigning champions. Brockport heads into Saturday's game with a 3-0 record, coming off of a 65-12 win over St. Lawrence University prior to their bye week. The Golden Eagles produced a strong effort on both sides of the ball. Offensively the team saw impressive performances by QB's Joe Germinerio who completed 18-of-23 for 296-yards and two touchdowns as well as Jason Hellwig who completed 7-of-010 for 76-yards while also acting as the team's interim kicker. Joe Benedict, Jala Coad, and Matt Samborski also came up big for the Green and Gold, jointly rushing for 266 total yards. The Golden Eagles defense held St. Lawrence to a single yard rushing with only 135 total yards of offense. Leading the Brockport defense was Matt Szymanski, who posted eight tackles on the day, including a tackle for loss and Aaron Pilgrim who added five tackles, including two for loss and a six-yard sack. In last year's matchup, the Golden Eagles found strength in Justin Morrison who rushed for 227-yards and three touchdowns. With Morrison's absence, Brockport hopes to see the momentum of Germinerio, Tyree Brown, Joseph Ortiz, and Christian Hollister to help lead the team to victory. The Cardinals are coming off of a tough 21-14 loss to Ithaca College last weekend. Despite the growing rivalry that has developed with the game, the event symbolizes much more. The Courage Bowl seeks to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, an organization that raises money for children diagnosed with cancer and other diseases. The event will host some honorary coaches and cheerleaders during the pre-game rituals, as members of Camp Good Days will be in attendance. To purchase tickets, please click here.
