Football Under the Lights as MSU Battles Kean on Saturday


Montclair, NJ - The Red Hawks are back out on the road although this week's trip will be a much shorter one as MSU heads to Union, NJ to face Kean University. Montclair State is off to a 3-0 start, 2-0 in NJAC play, after traveling down to Virginia and knocking off Christopher Newport in overtime, 17-14. Senior HUNTER DALY connected on a 25-yard field goal for the game-winner. That kick was set up by a JALEN HARRIS interception on CNU's first possession of the OT. Quarterback JA'QUILL BURCH threw a pair of touchdown passes connecting with BRIAN KOWALCZYK and CARSEN JOHNSON while linebackers MAURO ALTAMURA and SEAMUS NELSON had 11 tackles each. Kean fell to 0-3 on the season as the Cougars suffered a 14-9 setback against Southern Virginia at home. The Cougars had opportunities in the fourth quarter and appeared to take the lead but the score was called back for a penalty, one of 11 on the day for Kean. Rylan Pangborn was 19-of- 40 for 121 yards and one touchdown. Dietrich Trumbauer collected seven tackles while teammate DeShawn Reed recorded six with one and half for a loss as well as a half sack. This will be the 44th meeting between the schools in a series that began in 1975. Montclair has won 34 of the previous 43 contests. The Cougars have captured two of the last three however MSU won last year's meeting 18-15 as HUNTER DALY connected on four field goals.
