Monroe Football Jumps Two Spots to No. 14 in Latest NJCAA Rankings


CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 2, 2018 – The Monroe College football team's second bye week of the 2018 season proved once again to be a positive for the Mustangs, as they moved up two spots to No. 14 in the NJCAA Football Rankings, as announced by the NJCAA on Tuesday. The 3-0 Mustangs remained the third-ranked team in rushing production through their bye, averaging 286.3 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Jalen Brown leads the rushing attack with 265 yards over three games, including four rushing touchdowns. Zaire Jones has rushed for 241 yards in two games, averaging 120.5 yards per game on the ground. The Mustang defense currently ranks first in the NJCAA with 7.3 points allowed per game, and eighth in the NJCAA with 75.0 rushing yards allowed per game after leading the country in both categories a year ago. Rashon McNeil leads the Mustangs with 25 tackles on the season, followed by Grant Melton, who has made 23 tackles. Alton Nobles, Jordan Valerius-Twyman and Niadre Zouzoua all tie for the team lead with 4.5 tackles for loss, while Zouzoua leads the way with 3.0 sacks and a forced fumble on the season. Emmanuel Appiah-Tahkyi has three interceptions, while Qudair Sims and Jahvaron Burks each have one. Joshua Boyd has broken up four passes.
