Women's Tennis Takes Down Providence, 6-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield women's tennis improved to 2-0 on the season today with a 6-1 win over Providence on the Walsh Athletic Center tennis courts. Anna Komer began Singles competition with a dominating win over Haley Gurski (6-1, 6-1) in #3 Singles, setting the tone for the Stags early. Jessica Pil followed up with a win over Sera Satkowski by a score of (6-3, 6-2) in #5 Singles. In #4 Singles, Freshman Aina March defeated Aidan Epstein (6-1, 7-5) while Amanda Nowak took down Lauryn Jacobs (6-4, 7-5) in #2 Singles. Sophia Prinos finished with a win over Mini Dailey (7-6 (6-4), 6-4) in #6 Singles. Diana Prinos was locked in a battle with Risa Takenaka in #1 Singles but eventually fell by a score of (7-5, 4-6, 13-11). In Doubles competition, Courtney Connors and Sophia Prinos paired up for a great win over Mimi Dailey and Sera Satkowski (6-3) in #3 Doubles. In #1 Doubles, Diana Prinos and Anna Komer took down Risa Takenaka and Lauryn Jacobs (7-5) while Aina March and Amanda Nowak defeated Haley Gurski and Aidan Epstein (7-6 (7-5)) "I'm very happy with how we competed today against a very scrappy Providence team" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We are making positive strides in doubles which is nice to see with 3 freshmen in the lineup. These matches will help us a lot as we move into the spring. I'm looking forward to our weekend matches to see if we can continue to compete at a high level versus some very good opponents." The Stags will have a busy weekend at home as they host Wagner on Saturday at 12 P.M. and then take on UC Irvine on Sunday at 10 A.M.
