Men's Soccer Rolls Past FDU-Florham for Eighth Straight Win
Montclair, NJ – Senior RAFAEL TERCI and junior JOSE HUERTA each scored twice along with an assist as Montclair State rolled past FDU-Florham, 7-1 at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening. The Red Hawks (11-1-1) scored four times in the first 13 minutes to extend their winning streak to eight games downing its in-state rival in the first meeting between the teams since September 17, 2003. Montclair leads the all-time series, 8-1. Montclair State got on the board 95 seconds into the contest as KEVIN SIMEK fed JAKE SEAMAN for the first goal of the game. Huerta made it a 2-0 contest at the 3:44 mark and the two reversed roles seven minutes later as MSU's advantage grew to three. DeVaughn Foster capped the early scoring barrage knocking in a corner kick service from ANTHONY PELAEZ in the 13th minute. FDU Florham (3-8) forward Justin Estremera snapped the Red Hawk scoring run with 14:48 remaining in the opening half. Caleb Aryiku found Estremera deep inside the box with the latter making a 1-on-1 move against the goalkeeper before flicking in a shot for his sixth of the season. Huerta and Terci each netted unassisted tallies in the second half before CHAZ BURNETT finished off the Red Hawks' scoring in the 76th minute with his seventh of the year off an assist from JUAN CARLOS MERINO. Montclair outshot FDU-Florham 25-4 in the contest and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Tiernan Grey made five saves for the Devils while MIKE SAALFRANK stopped two for the Red Hawks. MSU returns to action on Saturday, October 6 as it hosts Ramapo College at MSU Soccer Park with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 pm.
