Lackawanna Football scores late to beat ASA College 30-26


(Scranton, PA) – It was a wild game today as Lackawanna College knocked off ASA College 30-26. The Falcons record now stands at 6-0.

The Falcons started the game with a kickoff return to the ASA 40-yard line. The drive stalled in the red zone, but Isaiah Howard would hit a field goal from the ASA 9-yard line. Falcons lead 3-0. ASA did not let the first score of the game rattle them, their first drive saw QB Khalid Morris throw a 30-yard completion to WR Tosin Oyekanmi for a touchdown. ASA leads 7-3.

The Falcon's next drive would go three and out. ASA would start their next drive on their own 44. They were able to get to the Lackawanna 2-yard line but a sack by Dillion Harris and false start penalty forced ASA to kick a field goal from the Lackawanna 17. ASA leads 10-3.

Lackawanna College would go into the 2nd quarter trailing but ASA would give the Falcons great field position after a 6-yard punt miscue. Taking over at the ASA 12, the Falcons would rush the ball for 3 yards, then go for a Touchdown when QB Shane McLaughlin threw a 9 yard pass to WR James Stanley. Tied 10-10.

The rest of the first half would belong to ASA College as they scored a touchdown on their next possession. Khalid Mack would throw his 2nd touchdown pass, for 14 yards to Sam Bryant. ASA leads 16-10 after a missed extra point. Lackawanna went on to take possession at 6:22 left in the 2nd quarter. QB Shane McLaughlin would throw a pick 6 to ASA's Javeon Ensley. ASA leads at halftime 23-10.

No scoring happened in the 3rd quarter, but it didn't take long to light up the scoreboard in the 4th. The first play of the 4th quarter saw Lackawanna's Marques DeShields run for a 55 yard gain to the ASA 26-yard line. QB Ryan Schumacher then found WR Jael Negron for a 26-yard touchdown throw. Lackawanna climbs back but trails 23-17. ASA College got the ball with 10:24 left on the clock and would work it down to 5:46 before kicking a field goal to take a two possession lead. ASA 26-17.

The Falcons came out with a fire with just over 5 minutes left on the clock. Darrius Brown ran back the kickoff for 55 yards. An ASA College penalty added on the kickoff gave the Falcons the ball on the ASA 10. Ryan Schumacher kept the ball on a quarterback sneak and flipped into the end zone after jumping over a defender for the score. Falcons score in less than a minute but trail 26-24.

The next ASA drive would turn the tide of the game. After the Falcons forced a 3rd and 9, ASA's Khalid Morris threw an interception to Dillion Harris. Harris would pick up a few blocks by the Falcons offense and would get himself into the end zone for a pick 6. Lackawanna leads 30-26 after failing to convert the 2-point attempt. ASA College took the ball back with 2:41 left in the 4th quarter. ASA would get themselves to the Lackawanna 6-yard line for a 1st and goal. A rush for 3 yards, a rush for 2 yards, and loss of 1 yard set up ASA for a 4th and goal on the 2-yard line with 22 seconds to go. Khalid Morris would rush the ball towards the end zone but be denied by Lackawanna's Andre Blackett. Lackawanna College defeats ASA College 30-26. The Falcons record is now 6-0.
