Nassau Football Takes a Win Over Cornell JV


Ithaca, NY) It was the perfect Sunday for a football game up in Ithaca, New York. Schoellkopf Field was filled with 261 passionate fans as the Nassau Lions prepared to take on the Cornell JV Big Red Bears. In the first half, Nassau was the first to get on the score board with Dayquan Audain's 8 yard touchdown pass from QB Stephen Genova. They continued to pour on the first quarter heat as Jaelin Hood caught a 5 yard pass from Genova to put the Lions up 14-0. Cornell kept the game within reach as they scored two touchdowns before halftime to tie up the score 14-14. Coming off of halftime, the 3rd quarter was a stalemate. Neither team scored the entire 3rd quarter. Cornell took their first lead of the game late in the 4th quarter to go up 14-20, but Nassau charged back. Genova threw a 25 yard pass to Jeremiah Nelson who caught it in the end-zone to put the Lions up by one. Nelson squeezed in a 12 yard run to seal the win for the Lions 28-20. Quarterback Stephen Genova completed 70 percent of his passes with 3 touchdowns. Teammate Jeremiah Nelson rushed for a total of 94 yards, completed 4 catches for 38 yards, and tallied two touchdowns. "This was a good win and confidence boost for the men as we tackle the remaining 5 games of our season." Assistant Coach Marc Poppe mentioned after the game.

Nassau is back on the road this weekend as they travel to Toledo, Ohio to compete against College of Dupage this Saturday.
