Football Returns To PFL Play At Jacksonville


POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – A week after playing its final non-league game of the season, the Marist football team (1-4 overall, 1-1 Pioneer Football League) returns to PFL play on Saturday, when the Red Foxes travel to Jacksonville. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Despite a record-setting effort from senior wide receiver Juston Christian, Marist was defeated at Columbia of the Ivy League 34-24 last Saturday. Christian set the single-game program record with 274 receiving yards, and tied the program record with three touchdowns. Christian was named PFL Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday, and earned STATS FCS Honorable Mention as Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

  • A furious fourth-quarter rally just fell short in Jacksonville's 44-37 defeat at Davidson last Saturday. The Dolphins trailed 44-9 entering the final quarter, but scored 28 straight points to come within seven. Quarterback Calvin Turner Jr. ran for 202 yards and three touchdowns.

  • The last five Marist-Jacksonville games have all been decided by seven points or less (25 total).

  • Christian is now third in the Football Championship Subdivision in yards per reception (26.6) and 11th in yards per reception (111.8).

  • Over the last two weeks, quarterbacks Jacob Hallenbeck and Mike Husni have combined to complete 29 of 42 passes (69%) for 539 yards with four passing touchdowns and three rushing scores.

  • Three Red Foxes are tied for the team lead with 36 tackles (red-shirt senior cornerback Brandon Miller, red-shirt senior linebacker Willie Barrett, and red-shirt sophomore linebacker Grant Dixon), followed closely by two with 35 (junior linebacker Maliek Carr and red-shirt senior safety Wesley Beans). Barrett leads the Red Foxes in sacks (three), and is tied for the team lead in tackles for loss (three-and-a-half), interceptions (one), and forced fumbles (one).

  • Turner Jr. leads the PFL in rushing yards (145.8 per game).
