Eight is Enough: Men’s Soccer closes regular season with dominating win over Orange CC as Ladron De
Middletown, NY) - If the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team plays the start of the post-season the way they played the end of the regular season, there is a chance they will continue playing for quite a while. Sophomore Franco Ladron De Guevarra (White Plains, NY/White Plains HS) registered his first career hat trick during a career-high eight-point game, and the Viking defense held an opponent under two goals for the 11th time this season as the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team finished the regular season with a 7-1 win over Orange Community College on Monday afternoon at Orange CC. With the win, the Vikings end the regular season with a 9-3-1 overall record (after winning eight games during each of the last two seasons), 7-3-1 in Region XV play, and a 3-0 ledger in Mid-Hudson Conference action. WCC will be the top seed for the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship Game on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they welcome #2 Ulster Community College at 4:00 p.m. For the third time this season, Westchester and Orange were scheduled to play on Monday, and for the third time, it poured. This time, however, the game took place, and thanks to Ladron De Guevarra, once the Vikings got rolling they never had to look back. Ladron De Guevarra scored in the 25th minute and then the 30th minute to make it a 2-0 game. Barely two minutes after Ladron De Guevarra's second goal, freshman Wali Azizi (Buchanan, NY/Hendrick Hudson HS) scored his fourth goal of the season to make it 3-0, and the rout was on. After Orange scored in the 43rd minute to make it a 3-1 game, Ladron De Guevarra found Azizi again to make it a 4-1 game heading into halftime. After the break, it was much of the same. Ladron De Guevarra completed the hat trick in the 78th minute to make it 5-1. Two minutes later, Renzo Tolentino (New Rochelle, NY/San Antonio (Peru) HS) scored his first goal of the season to make it 6-1. The scoring ended in the 83rd minute when Ladron De Guevarra notched his second assist and eighth point, setting up Anthony Aguirre (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow HS) for the 7-1 final. Freshman Guilherme Griza (Novo Hamburgo-RS (Brazil)/Colegio Marista Pio XII) recorded four saves for the win. The Vikings out-shot Orange 16-5, and held a 10-2 edge on corner kicks. After Wednesday's Mid-Hudson Conference Finals, Westchester - the #5 seed - will travel to Borough of Manhattan Community College - the #4 seed - for the opening round of the Region XV playoffs. BMCC defeated Westchester 2-1 on October 6.
