Field Hockey Equals Highest National Ranking in Program History with No. 3 Billing
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association unveiled its latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll on Tuesday morning, listing the Merrimack College field hockey program as the third-ranked program nationwide. The billing is significant, as it equals the highest the program has ever been ranked in the coaches poll. The 2011 edition of the Warriors – who finished that season with a program-record setting 17 victories – also reached the No. 3 spot, doing so in the final edition of the 2011 rankings. Merrimack reached the national semifinals in 2011, and also claimed the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship. In Tuesday's poll, the Warriors received three first-place tallies, and were the highest ranked NE10 program. Merrimack trailed only top-ranked West Chester University and No. 2 East Stroudsburg in the poll. Fourth-ranked Pace, sixth-ranked Stonehill and 10th-ranked LIU Post were the other NE10 squads featured in the rankings. Merrimack begins a three-game road swing tomorrow night, when the Warriors head to Worcester, Mass. to face Assumption College at 7 p.m.
