Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer Maintains No. 4 Ranking in NJCAA Poll
CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 16, 2018 – With no games played this past week, the Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team maintained the No. 4 ranking in the NJCAA Div. I Women's Soccer Rankings for Week 7, as announced by the NJCAA on Tuesday. The Mustangs rank fifth in the nation in scoring, averaging 6.56 goals per game on their way to an 8-0-1 record. Juliana Pires leads the team with 38 points through nine games, including 15 goals and a team-high eight assists. Maria Santinleads the Mustangs with 16 goals on the season and has a total of 33 points. Laia Munoz Danon has 21 points on eight goals and five assists. Goalkeeper Marta Alemany is 8-0-1 on the season with a 1.12 goals-against average. The Mustangs are set to finally play their home opener on Thursday, Oct. 18, when they host Essex County College on their home turf of Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
