Field Hockey Tallies 1-0 Win Over Delaware Valley


MADISON, N.J. (October 17, 2018) - The FDU-Florham field hockey team defeated Delaware Valley University 1-0, Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field. With the victory, the Devils clinched a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship which will be held later this month. The Devils offense used a second half goal from senior Brooke Sherwinand a shutout performance from senior Samantha Rubin to improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in the MAC Freedom. The shutout from Rubin was the teams eighth of the season which ties the program record for single-season shutouts. The Aggies dropped to 5-9, 0-5 in the conference. The Aggies had the first great chance to score in the 21st minute when their shot got pass Rubin but was stopped by a full extension diving effort by senior Makayla Pak. The defensive save was Pak's first of the season. The Devils best opportunity to break the tie came within the final minute of the first half, when sophomore Marissa Colvin's shot was stop by a diving attempt from the Aggies goalkeeper. The Devils held a 7-2 shot advantage and a 10-2 penalty corner advantage in the opening frame. In the second half, the Devilstook advantage of a man advantage and scored on the first shot attempt since the Aggies green card. Sherwin found the back of the cage from a perfect pass by senior Kelly O'Neill. With under a minute left in regulation, a yellow card put the Devils at a man disadvantage. The Devils nearly scored shorthanded but then, the Aggies went on a two on one counter-attack, but Pak was able to stop the pass and put an end to the Aggies attack. The Devils will travel to face Kings College, Friday, October 19 at 7 p. m. for their next conference game match-up.
