Football Edged by Misericordia 37-33 Lebanon Valley College


DALLAS, Pa. (October 20, 2018) - The FDU-Football team was clipped by Misericordia 37-33 in Middle Atlantic Conference football action Saturday. The Devils fall to 4-3 on the season, and 2-3 within the conference. The Cougars improved to 6-1, 5-0 in the MAC. Both sides failed to score during the first quarter, including each team scoring three and out on their first possession. The Cougars bridged the first and second quarters with a 12-play, 62-yard drive capped off with a touchdown pass from Brady Williams to Isaiah Williams. Misericordia would punt on their next possession, and the Devils capitalized on the 15 yard punt. 10 plays took 5:09 off the clock, and senior Jagger Green plunged in for a two yard rushing touchdown. Green kept the drive alive with a five yard pass to sophomore Alnazir Blackman on third and three. Brady Williams would throw for his second score of the afternoon on the next drive, hitting Sam Gillison for a 15 yard strike as time was winding down in the half. The hosts opened the second half with the ball, but freshman Deandre Carter intercepted Brady Williams on the second play of the half. The Devils marched down the field, with Green connecting with senior Mike Panzarino for a 34 yard catch and run. The duo hooked up for four completions during the drive. Special teams took over for the Devils, as the defense was able to force Misericordia into a punt. The punt went to the FDU 10, where junior Josh Rainey fielded it and ran down the sideline for a 90 yard score. The TD gave FDU their first lead of the game. Carter came up with his second big play of the game late in the third. With Misericordia pinned deep in their own territory, Carter around and blocked a punt in the endzone. Freshman Anthony Sangillo fell on it for another special teams touchdown. With the Devils up 13, Misericordia cut the deficit down to six, as Brady Williams scored on a one yard TD run. The Green and Panzarino duo connected again for a score, this time from 25 yards out. As the Devils went for a two-point conversion, Panzarino had his pass intercepted by Damian Diaz. Diaz ran the ball all the way back for a defensive two-point conversion, making it a 10 point game. The Cougars forced a Devils punt and went down the field in 14 plays to get within three. For the second time, Brady Williams found Isaiah Williams for a touchdown reception. With just 1:01 remaining, Misericordia went for the onside kick and recovered it. In just six plays, Brady Williams hit Gillison for the game-winning score with 28 seconds left. FDU had one chance to take the lead back, but a fumble on the third play of the drive ended the game. Green went 25-of-32 for 239 yards and two touchdowns, as Panzarino hauled in 17 passes for 190 yards and two TD's. Senior Isaiah Turner led the team with 15 tackles and also added .5 sacks and a forced fumble. Carter had two tackles in addition to two pass breakups and the interception. The Devils host Lebanon Valley next Saturday for Homecoming, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
