Lions Capture Region Championship
Garden City, NY) On Saturday afternoon, the Nassau Women's Soccer team hosted the regional championship facing Fashion Institute of Technology for the two teams third and final match of the season. The Lions had previously beaten the team two times in the season. This game decided which team would continue in the district championship. The Lions went down early in the first half, but sophomore Ashley Esposito responded immediately putting away a flawless goal within minutes. With a foul in the box, the Lions were then awarded a penalty kick that was put away by captain Lisa Maybie. Captain Diana Lemus blasted a shot from 25 yards out to make the score 3-1. Going into the second half, FIT responded with a quick goal within the 18 yard box. Within minutes, Ashley Espositocapitalized again to make the score 4-2. Coming to the end of the second half, FIT caused another penalty in the box and Diana Lemus scored her second goal of the match. The Lions sealed the regional championship with a 5-2 win and will head into the district championship on Saturday October 27th.
