Football Narrowly Falls to Army Prep
West Point, NY) Last Friday, Nassau Lions Football traveled up to West Point, New York to take on Army Prep under the evening lights. Coming off of a three game winning streak, the Lions were feeling confident. The game started out slow for NCC. The Knights kept them to just a field goal in the first quarter, but couldn't hold them back in the 2nd. First John Royal returned a blocked field goal attempt for a 78 yard touchdown. Then Wide Receiver Rashad Tucker had a 44 yard touchdown run to help put the Lions up 17-7 just before the half. Coming back from halftime, the Lions kept the pressure on Army Prep, but the Knights scored, allowing them to tie up the game going into the final quarter. The Lions struggled to stop Army Prep after that point. The Knights scored 3 consecutive times to pull away from NCC. Rashad Tucker had a last ditch effort to pull the Lions back within reach with a 15 yard touchdown run, but there wasn't enough time. The Lions fell in a close match of 24-27. Outstanding player of the game was Rashad Tucker who ran for 228 yards and tallied 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Coach Marc Poppe commented after the game that "this was a tough loss on the road. Our team made a strong effort at the end, but came up just a little short. We have 3 games left of the season, and every game helps us get more experienced to help us improve." Next Nassau takes on Navy Prep in their last home game of the year on Saturday.
