Football Ranked Fifth in Initial Super Region I Poll


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released its initial Division II Football regional rankings on Monday, Oct. 22 with the LIU Post Pioneers taking the No. 5 spot in the Super Region I poll. The Pioneers are one of 13 unbeaten teams in Division II this season, including five schools from Super Region I. LIU Post is in the midst of a 12-game win-streak, one win away from matching the program record set twice, most recently during the 2015-16 seasons. The Northeast-10 Conference boasts three teams in the top-10, including No. 3 University of New Haven and No. 10 Assumption College who the Pioneers battle as part of the NCAA Division II Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 27. Sophomore defensive back Nazir Streater has been one of the most impactful defensive players in the country during the past three weeks, garnering three-consecutive NE10 Defensive Player of the Week accolades. During the stretch, Streater recorded six interceptions, nine tackles, and two pass breakups. Offensively, graduate student quarterback Chris Laviano ranks first in the conference in passing yards per game (278.7), second in passing touchdowns (19), and third in completion percentage (60.1). The rivalry matchup with the Greyhounds will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
