Football Falls to Christopher Newport, 13-3
Newport News, Va. (10/27/18) – The Kean University football team fell in a defensive, muddy battle with Christopher Newport University by the final of 13-3 on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
Senior Dylan Curran accounted for the first score of the day, converting on a 47-yard field goal with 8:55 to play in the opening quarter. Kean evened the contest with a 33-yard field goal from Marcin Zadlo with 4:29 to play in the second quarter. Quarterback Jack Anderson entered the game and played the entire second half. He threw for 100 yards and connected on 10 of 16 passes, leading the offense on a 13-play, 88-yard drive that resulted in the only touchdown of the game. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Anderson connected with sophomore Cole Blais on an 11-yard scoring pass to account for the 13-3 final. The defensive battle featured 11 sacks, five by the Cougars and six by the Captains. Louie Zambardinoled all players with 12 total tackles while Dante Capozzoli added nine tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Freshman Anthony Bassani recorded two and a half tackles for a loss, one interception, one fumble recovery and six total tackles.
Kean returns home for their final home game of the season next Saturday against Frostburg State University in NJAC action.
