Football Defeated 28-9 at Home vs. Erie


Hudson Valley Community College football (2-7) had to fight through the cold rain of a nor'easter as they Vikings came up short against their NJCAA Region 3 rival, Erie 28-9 on Saturday afternoon in Troy, NY.

The Vikings combined for 172 yards of total offense with 11 first downs and were led by second-year kicker Nathan Fankhanel (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa). Fankhanel connected for all three of his field goal attempts in the first half and gave the Vikings the 9-3 lead as the game entered halftime.

Fankhanel's three field goals were from 23-yards, 20-yards and 25-yards, respectively. He and the Vikings had to fight through the rain and the slick conditions, but they did not sway Fankhanel's confidence as he has now converted five consecutive field goals along with 11 straight made extra point attempts.

Rasheed Teasley (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Melvin Reid (Camden, NJ/Winslow Township) combined for 165 yards receiving with Teasley finishing the game with three catches for 87 yards. Reid led the team with eight catches and recorded 78 receiving yards.

Jon Underwood(Beacon/Beacon), Saquion Gullett (Salem, NJ/Penns Grove) and Rakeem Ridore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) each finished with 11 total tackles to lead the Vikings defense. Underwood added a forced fumble and Christian Otorubio (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Dave Thomas) recorded the Vikings only defensive interception.

Hudson Valley travels to Newport, Rhode Island this Saturday, November 3 for their season finale as they play Navy Prep at 1 p.m.
