Field Hockey to Host Eastern in MAC Freedom Tournament


MADISON, N.J. (October 30, 2018) - The FDU-Florham field hockey team hosts Eastern in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament tomorrow evening. GAME INFO The two sides will square off at 7 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, N.J. TICKET INFO As per the Middle Atlantic Conference, tickets prices are: $5 - Adults $4 - Seniors $2 - Students Free - Under six years old TOURNAMENT INFO In the other semifinal, No. 2 DeSales hosts No. 3 Wilkes at 5 p.m. The two winners will meet Saturday at the site of highest remaining seed at time to be announced. PERFECTION The Devils claimed the MAC Freedom Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference. The team surrendered just four goals during those seven games. MAK-PAK Senior defender Makayla Pak was selected as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MAC Freedom. Pak was named to the Victory Sports/NFHCA Division III Senior Game and has notched a goal and an assist with a defensive save. FIRST TEAM Joining Pak on the First Team were seniors Kelly O'Neill and Samantha Rubin along with junior Maggie Sohns. O'Neill led the team with 12 goals and 29 points, while Sohns led the way with eight helpers. Rubin posted a 15-4 record with 47 saves, as the team posted a school-record nine shutouts this year. SECOND TEAM/HONORABLE MENTION Senior Brooke Sherwin was named Second Team All-MAC Freedom, closing out her career with her first All-Conference honor. Sherwin netted eight goals and two assists while taking a school-record 79 shots. Freshman Sydney Moskal joined Sherwin on the second team, helping the defense allow just 21 goals. Moskal recorded her first career defensive against TCNJ on October 9. Additionally, senior Chrissy Penneygains an Honorable Mention nod after being named Second Team the last two years. Penney leads the team with four game-winning tallies. SUPER SAM Rubin broke the FDU school-record when she notched her 36th career win against Drew in September. The senior has run her total to 43 career victories thus far. NCAA RANKINGS The Devils have continued to receive votes in the Penn Montp/NFHCA National Coaches Poll, and are fifth in the NCAA South Atlantic Region. LAST MEETING Eastern grabbed a 3-0 lead heading into halftime, but Devils, led by a hat-trick from O'Neill, tallied six second-half goals for a 6-3 triumph. HAT-TRICK HEROES The Devils hosted Manhattanville on Senior Night last Wednesday, and Penney and O'Neill celebrated their last home regular season game in style.
