MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS SUFFOLK AND HEADS TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Garden City, NY) On Tuesday, the Men's Soccer Team laced up their cleats for the Regional Championship game against long time, Long Island rival Suffolk Community College. Right off the bat the first half was a dual back and forth between the Lions and Sharks. Carlos Martinez and Rob Anastacio both scored, helping put Nassau up 2-1. The second half is where the game got interesting. The Lions found their stride and pulled away to seal the deal 5-2. Region 15 player of the year JP Rodriguez and Jason Cruz both effortlessly found the back of the net to contribute to the victory. Outstanding players of the game Carlos Martinez and Rob Anastasio were key ingredients to the win. Martinez was a spark coming off the bench, while Anastasio had 2 goals himself to ignite the team. The entire defense executed well in the back half of the field to keep the Sharks from scoring. Head Coach Dan Fisher commented after the game, "This has always been one of the biggest rivalry games on Long Island. Two great teams who battle all year and it comes down to the Regional. I couldn't be happier for our student-athletes and especially the sophomores that earned their first Regional Championship. I'm hoping that next week we can bring back the National Championship to Long Island too." This win tallied the 17th straight victory for the Lions. Next week the team travels to Herkimer, NY for the NJCAA DIII National Tournament.
