No. 2 Pace Field Hockey Defeats No. 9 Stonehill to Earn Outright NE10 Regular-Season Championship
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – History was made at Finnerty Field on Tuesday night as the second-ranked Pace University field hockey team's 3-1 win over No. 9 Stonehill capped off a perfect 13-0 regular season inside the Northeast-10 Conference. The Setters, in just their fourth year in existence, have earned the outright NE10 regular-season championship for the first time in program history. Pace heads into the postseason with an overall record of 17-1, and will now host the NE10 Tournament for as long as they keep advancing. The Setters will open things with a matchup against the No. 8 seed at Finnerty Field next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Senior Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) once again led way for the Blue and Gold, scoring another two goals to increase her team-lead to 15 this season. Rose kick-started the attack with a goal in just the fourth minute of the game, before then scoring again at the 41:40 mark. Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) recorded the Setters' other tally on the night, providing the home squad with a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute of the first half. She was able to finish off a nice assist from classmate Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) for her eighth goal of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Grace Henderson (Kingswood, South Australia/Unley) registered her 17th triumph of the season, posting six saves in the process. Henderson continues to lead the NE10 in goals-against average (0.71) this season, having allowed seven less tallies than any other keeper in the league. The Setters' victory on Tuesday night also puts the finishing touches on a second-straight undefeated home regular season. Pace is now a perfect 17-0 at Finnerty Field since the beginning of 2017.
