Terriers' Waglione Shines At Virginia Union Invitational

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - St. Francis Brooklyn freshman Taylor Waglione continued her outstanding rookie campaign in NCAA bowling this weekend, earning a place on the All-Tournament Team at the Virginia Union University Invitational, held in Glen Allen, Virginia. Of all the bowlers in the 19 team field, Waglione ranked fourth in total pinfall with 960 in the traditional portion of the event on Saturday, averaging 192 over her five games. She began the day with a 227 in a win over Norfolk State University, and closed the day with a 205 game as the Terriers defeated Coppin State University. Her average was the best out of all freshmen at the tournament, as the three bowlers who ranked ahead of Waglione are all upperclassmen. While selection to the All-Tournament Team is based upon individual performance during just one of the three days of the tournament, Waglione demonstrated her skills throughout the weekend in the two days of Baker matches as well. In Baker play, Waglione filled 72 of her 83 frames, an 86.7 percent filled frame rate, and had no more than two opens (out of at least 10 frames) in any of the team's eight Baker matches. She filled her frames with excellent spare shooting, converting 44 of her 55 total spare attempts. "I am so proud of our freshman class," said Head Coach Dawn Gugliaro. "Victoria Hollywood made the All-Tournament Team our first weekend and now Taylor Waglione made it this weekend. In addition, Heather Waters finished eighth this weekend, missing the All-Tournament Team by 18 pins. Our freshman class has come in and made huge contributions to the program in a short period of time." The Terriers will be back in action at the Eastern Shore Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMES, on November 16-18 in Millsboro, DE.
