Football Ends Season with Shutout at William Paterson, 24-0


Wayne, NJ – Senior HUNTER DALY kicked three field goals and BRENNAN RAY returned a fumble for a touchdown as Montclair State finished off its season with a 24-0 victory over William Paterson on Saturday afternoon. RALPH MCLEAN rushed for a score as the Red Hawks completed the season at 8-2 overall, 7-2 in NJAC. The victory total marks the 21st time MSU captured eight or more wins in a season and the first since the 2014 campaign. Montclair missed on an early opportunity to score as the Pioneers stuffed a 4th-and-goal from the WPU 1. Pinned deep, MSU forced a punt which went shot giving the Red Hawks the ball at the 35. After two incompletions and a short run, Daly came on and connected from 48 yards out for a 3-0 lead with 7:48 to play in the first quarter. Daly added to the lead early in the second hitting from 38 yards and Montclair added to the lead on the next possession after WPU drove the ball to the Montclair 31. Quarterback Mike Yarosz fumbled on a 2nd-and-10 play. Ray scooped up the loose ball and raced 63 yards for the touchdown as Montclair led 13-0 with 5:18 to go before halftime. Daly's third of the game 10 seconds into the fourth quarter extended the lead to 16-0. MSU's final score came midway through as McLean barreled in from a yard out with 7:08 to play. WILLIE BARR rushed for 36 yards on the drive, including a 24-yard burst. Meanwhile the Montclair State defense held WPU to 128 yards in the contest. MAURO ALTAMURA led the group with eight tackles including 3.5 for loss. JAKE WEBER picked up two sacks. Barr rushed for 99 yards on 19 carries.
