Women's Soccer Falls in ECAC Semifinals
WESTMINSTER, Md. (November 17, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team fell to McDaniel 5-1 in the ECAC Semifinals Saturday afternoon. The Devils close out their season with a 14-7-2 record, with sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Paulino setting the school-record for wins in a season. The 14 wins were one away from tying the school-record of 15 victories. Neither side was able to generate much offense in the opening part of the game, with FDU's Madeline Finnegan notching the first shot of the afternoon in the 19th minute. The Green Terror got on the board in the 22nd minute, with Maddie Schwartz converting a Lindsey Farrell pass for the games first goal. Paulino made a pair of saves late in the half to keep the score at 1-0, but with just over four minutes remaining, junior Erika Pita fired a shot that just sailed high. McDaniel held a slim 8-5 lead in shots, and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Despite recording consecutive corner kicks to open the second period, FDU was unable to find the equalizer. Sophomore Tatiana Nieto had the best opportunity, as her attempt off a corner kick was stopped by the keeper in the 49th minute. At the 62:42 mark, Farrell fed Hannah Schepers to double the Green Terror lead. Just 1:03 later, Pita broke through for her team-leading 12th tally of the season. With the Devils pressing to find the tying goal, McDaniel was able to net three goals over the final 15 minutes to break the game open.
