Cortland Falls to Oswego, 3-1


CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego women's ice hockey team scored three unanswered third-period goals in defeating Cortland, 3-1, Saturday night in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena. The Lakers improved to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference, while the Red Dragons fell to 2-4-2 and 0-4-2. Junior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) scored Cortland's goal. Sophomores Katelinn Cummings (Johnson City/Northwood School) and Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) each recorded an assist. Senior goalie Victoria Gibson (Essex Junction, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) made 24 saves. Sophomore Leah Czerwinski (Buffalo/Buffalo Bisons) netted a pair of goals for Oswego. Sophomore Jean-marie Padden (Cranford, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) contributed a goal and an assist, sophomore Philomena Teggart (Pickering, ON/Durham West Jr. Lightning) registered two assists and freshman Sara Cruise (Fairhaven, MA/Hoosac School) picked up an assist. Freshman goalie Hannah Lindey (Slippery Rock, PA/Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney) turned aside 28 shots. After two scoreless periods, King gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 7:01 of the third period with a wrist shot in front. Czerwinski tied the game just 49 seconds later with a wrist shot through traffic and scored the game-winner on a one-timer in front at 16:23.
