St. Lawrence Downs SUNY Canton, 94-71

Upperclassmen Ben Crawford, Riley Naclerio and Dom DeRegis combined for 58 points to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 94-71 win over SUNY Canton on Tuesday afternoon at Burkman Gymnasium. With the win, the Saints improved to 2-2 on the season heading into Thanksgiving break, while SUNY Canton fell to 1-3. St. Lawrence now holds a 6-0 all-time record against the Roos. Crawford led the Saints with 24 points, shooting 11-for-16 from the floor, and grabbed 12 rebounds to post his first double-double of the season. Naclerio ranked second on the Saints' squad with a season-high 21 points and four rebounds, while DeRegis added 13 points for the Scarlet and Brown. SUNY Canton took an early 5-0 lead, but Crawford knotted the game at 15 and again at 17 with assists from Naclerio and Jordan Huntley. Jordan Stewart capitalized on a fast-break opportunity for the Roos and increased SUNY Canton's lead to 21-17 with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. Fast forward to the end of the first after a series of ties on a back-and-forth battle, Luke Hicks went 1-for-2 from the line to tie the game at 34 and DeRegis sank a last second 3-pointer to give the Saints a 37-34 lead heading into the break. It was all Saints after halftime. A layup from Naclerio put the Saints up by eight and a 10-3 run capped with an alley oop, also from Naclerio, put the Saints up by 15 with 9:35 remaining in the second half. A fast break from Huntley gave the Saints a commanding 18-point lead, which broke 20, just over a minute later, with another shot from Naclerio. St. Lawrence posted a 27-point spread with a 3-pointer from Steve Low as the clock wound down for the Saints second win of the season. "It's nice to get a win at home and bring our schedule to .500 before break," said head coach Chris Downs. "We're looking forward to next week and being able to face a top-20 team in Plattsburgh. Our new guys are taking steps in the right direction and we got to get a lot of guys in the game this afternoon and get contributions from lots of different people. Our seniors played great today, putting up half our points and our interior play was what made the overall difference in today's game." George Nehma led the Roos with 10 points (5-for-7) and seven rebounds, while Brandon Adkisson, Robert Holliday Jr. and Jordan Stewart all recorded 10 points each. Andrew Fitch posted a team-best four blocks, while Nehma grabbed two steals for the Roos. St. Lawrence finished today's game shooting 50 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from the arc and 75 percent from the line, while SUNY Canton shot 45 percent from the floor and 68 from the free-throw line. St. Lawrence will return to action and host Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, November 27 at 8 p.m.
