Women’s Swimming Breaks Free Relay Record in Skyline Opener at Sarah Lawrence
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Senior Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill), juniors Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein), Rebecca Bollmann(Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), and Kathryn Cosenza(Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) teamed up to break a three-year-old record in the 200-yard freestyle relay but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team dropped a 115-40 conference decision to Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon.
SJC Highlights
The quartet of Doherty, Gnad, Bollman, and Cosenza lowered the record by nearly three seconds clocking in at 1:54.95 good for second place. Doherty—who swam an opening leg of 27.18 to give the Bears a slight lead—helped set the previous standard as a freshman on November 21, 2015.
Doherty also picked second-place points in the 100-yard freestyle finishing in 1:01.14.
Bollmann swam a personal-best (29.27) and Cosenza logged a season-best (29.82) to finish in second and third in the 50-yard freestyle.
Erin Corbett (Woodhaven, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) swam a season-best 2:33.67 in the 200-yard freestyle capturing second place.
Next Up for the Bears
The Bears (0-4, 0-1) have two weeks off before facing Lehman College after the Thanksgiving break on Friday, November 30. The non-conference dual meet in the Bronx starts at 6 p.m.
