Men's Ice Hockey Set for Weekend Series Against Robert Morris


Last Time Out... The Pioneers tied Canisius in the first game of the two game series 3-3 while SHU fell to the Golden Griffs in the second by a score of 3-2. In the first game, redshirt junior Jason Cotton, freshman Todd Goehring and senior Zach De Concilys each tallied a goal in the game in contribution to sending the game into overtime.

Last Meeting... The Pioneers were unable to overcome a three-goal deficit, falling to Robert Morris 3-1 on February 3, 2018 as the team dropped the two game set to the Colonials. Vito Bavaro netted his 14th goal of the season with the lone SHU tally. Freshmen linemates Marc Johnstone and Jordan Kaplan had the assists on the goal. Junior goaltender Brett Magnus registered 23 saves against the tough RMU offense.

Scouting The Colonials... The Colonials come into the 2018-19 season as runner ups from last years Atlantic Hockey League Championship. Despite finishing with a sub-.500 record in 2017-18 for the first time this decade, the Colonials made their third consecutive trip to the Atlantic Hockey title game last spring and have made the AHA semis for five straight seasons, one shy of the conference record. The team returns top goal scorer Alex Tonge and Luke Lynch. Tonge and Lynch each netted 17 goals last season which was tied for second on team behind Brady Ferguson who had 18. Tonge currently leads the team in goals with six. Junior Francis Marotte returns to guarding the net for the Colonials as he tallies an save percentage of 89.6% while compiling a GAA of 3.21 and a record of 5-5-1.

Cotton Continues To Thrive for Pioneers... Redshirt Junior Jason Cotton has continued to be the teams leading goal scorer for the Pioneers as he netted a goal against the Golden Griffs this past weekend to up his goal total to four on the year. He is currently tied for 18th in Atlantic Hockey in goals scored.

Godbout Heats Up... Sophomore Marcel Godbout has been on a hot streak as he has tallied a total of two goals in the past five games including one against Canisius this past weekend. He also recorded an assist in the Canisus series as well. He scored his first collegiate goal in the teams matchup against Army West Point on Nov 10.
