Hoffman-Smith Breaks Program Record in 1,650 Free on Final Day of Bomber Invite


ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team rounded the 8th Annual Bomber Invite on Sunday afternoon in fourth place with 744 points. Cornell won the field with 1,705.5 points while SUNY Geneseo finished in second and Rochester took third. Morgan Hoffman-Smith had a stellar performance in the 1,650 freestyle in which she came in third place and broke the program record. The sophomore swam to a time of 17:35.44, coming in behind swimmers from Geneseo and Cornell. Junior Maura Beuttel rounded out the top-20 finishes, coming in 20th with a time of 19:38.00. Senior Jaclyn Pecze was the top finisher in the 100 IM, taking first after swimming to a time of 1:03.82, beating second place by nearly four points. In the 100 freestyle, senior Genny Tripler was the top IC finisher, taking 21st overall with a time of 54.74. Angelina Domena finished 27th after swimming to a time of 55.71. Morgan-Hoffman Smith picked up a 12th-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.83 while junior Tori Eastham also cracked the top-20 after swimming to a time of 2:15.71. The Bombers had two top-15 finishes in the 200 breaststroke as Ashley warren took 13th with a time of 2:31.20 and Hannah Parbst claimed 14th with a time of 2:32.19. Ithaca rounded out the day with a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Eastham, Hoffman-Smith, Pecze and Tripler swam to a time of 3:37.76, coming in just .19 seconds behind third place. The Bombers now break from competition for the remainder of the semester and return to action on Saturday, January 12 in a tri-meet at RIT with Hamilton.
