Squash Ends Home Weekend With 4-1 Mark


Bronx, N.Y. – (December 2, 2018) – The Fordham squash team wrapped up a strong weekend of play on Sunday afternoon at the Lombardi Squash Courts, picking up two more wins to finish the weekend with a 4-1 mark. The two wins moves Fordham's record to 11-4 on the year. The Rams started Sunday with an early morning 7-1 win over Lehigh. Six Rams earned three-game victories, beginning with Griffin Fitzgerald at the #2 slot, as he defeated Cornelius Bancroft, 11-5, 11-9, and 11-3. Justin Esposito (#4) and Justin Deckoff (#5) followed with wins over P.J. Walsh (11-4 11-6, 11-7) and Ben Rankin (11-7, 12-10, and 11-0), respectively. Henry Poehlein (#6 – 11-5, 11-2, 11-3), Dylan Panichello (#7 – 11-0, 11-5, 11-3), and George Holiat (#8 – 11-0, 11-0, 11-1) rounded out the 3-0 victories for Fordham. The last win for the Rams came at first position, where Patrick Roddin toppled Sam Ghorashi in four games, 11-2, 11-3, 8-11, and 11-7. In the final match of the weekend, Fordham topped Bryant by a 8-0 score. Roddin earned his second win of the day and third of the weekend, by defeating Yuvraj Duggal at first position by scores of 11-2, 11-7 and 11-3, as did Fitzgerald, who topped Jonathan Lewis, 11-8, 11-5, and 11-4 at the second slot. Tommy White (#3 – 11-6, 11-1, 11-1), Reed (#4 - 11-1, 11-4, 11-7), Esposito (#5 – 11-2, 11-4, 11-3), Deckoff (#6 – 11-2, 11-2, 11-2), Poehlein (#7 – 11-4, 11-4, 11-6), and Holiat (#8 – 9-11, 11-0, 11-7, 11-6) rounded out the wins for Fordham. The Rams are back in action on Saturday, December 8th, when the Rams will host three matches against Duke at 9:00 AM, Siena at 10:30 AM, and Colgate at 3:00 PM.
