Warfvinge, Waugh Earn Top Marks At TCNJ Opener


New York, NY - Manhattan track and field's Lisa Warfvinge won the women's long jump with a distance of 5.61 meters at the TCNJ Season Opener, her first meet as a Jasper, held at The Armory on December 1. Teammate Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY \ Half Hollow Hills West) also earned a win Saturday, hitting a personal-best 16.78 meters in the men's shot put. Both Jaspers qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championships with their respective performances. Highlights: Field Performers

  • Including Warfvinge and Waugh, the Jaspers earned 17 top-10 field performances on Saturday. In the men's shot, senior Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) qualified for IC4As with a 16.35-meter throw, good for second place. Teammate Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny College) took third with a distance of 16.10 meters, also an IC4A-qualifying performance.

  • Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) took third in the women's shot, qualifying for ECACs with a 14.14-meter distance, her career-best. Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) claimed fourth in the event with a career-high 13.47 meters, while Cheyenne Lewis (Queens, NY / Washingtonville) earned sixth place with a 11.12-meter throw.

  • Nina Bjorkman took third in the women's weight throw, earning an ECAC-qualifying distance of 16.52 meters. Preckajlo followed in fifth with a personal-best 15.70-meter throw, while Lewis took sixth with a distance of 14.58 meters.

  • Newcomer Enrique Martinez earned a third-place finish in the men's weight throw, qualifying for the IC4A Championships with a distance of 17.63 meters. Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) followed up in third with a 16.23-meter distance, a career-best.

  • Cassie Riley (Fair Haven, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) took eighth in both the women's high jump and long jump. She nabbed a personal best in the long jump, hitting 5.17 meters. In the high jump, she reaching 1.50 meters. A.J. Michel (Pamona, NY / Don Bosco) earned sixth-place in the men's triple jump, hitting a career-best 12.86 meters.

  • In the pole vault, freshman Lilly Brown took home sixth place with a height of 3.19 meters. On the men's side, Chris Woodhouse(Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Technical) earned 10th with a height of 4.16 meters.

Track Performers

  • The Manhattan men took second and third in the 4x400. One squad, made of of Kyle Watkins (Coram, NY / Longwood), Alexander (A.J.) Moore (Colonia, NJ / John F. Kennedy), Jordan Greene (Boston, MA / Newton North) and Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY / Sleepy Hollow) nabbed a time of 3:20.43, while their fellow Jaspers, Matthew Sullivan (Short Hills, NJ / Millburn), Stephen Sgarlato (New York, NY / Xavier), Seth Goitia and Jonathan Nieves (Yonkers, NY / Iona Prep) earned fourth with a time of 3:27.33.

  • In the women's 4x400, Mikeisha Kelly (Albany, NY / Colonie Central), Chinelo Nnakwe (Central Islip, NY / St. Anthony's), Tiahna Mitchell (Joppa, MD / Harford Technical) and Zarah Harris (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central) earned fifth place with a time of 4:03.12.

  • Freshman Hali Ielfield (Glenfield, NY / South Lewis Central) nabbed a third-place finish in the women's 1,000-meter race, earning a time of 2:58.77. Will Salmon III (Baldwin, NY / Baldwin) took sixth in the men's 1000-meters with a time of 2:38.88, a personal best, while teammate David Lozipone (Massapequa Park, NY / Kellenberg Memorial) grabbed seventh place with a time of 2:35.59.

  • In the mile, Megan Carmody (Rumford, RI / Bishop Feehan), Gianna Tinto (King's Park, NY / Smithtown West) and Sam Hoagland (Colt's Neck, NJ / Colt's Neck) went 7-8-9 for the Jaspers. Carmody finished in 5:25.99, Tinto in 5:27.75 and Hoagland in 5:30.08, all personal-best times. The Jasper men went 7-8-10, with Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD / Walt Whitman) taking seventh with a personal-best 4:27.40, Jermar Ortega (Valley Cottage, NY / Nyack) nabbing eighth in 4:29.87, also a personal best, and Nick Matson (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) earning 10th in 4:31.09.

  • Chris Emerson (Westbury, NY / Kellenberg Memorial) earned third in the men's 5000-meters with a career-best time of 16:10.72, while Caitlin Hartnett (Tappan, NY / Tappan Zee) earned sixth place in the women's race with a time of 20:03.38.

  • Freshman Amahri Boyce took fifth in the women's 60-meters, while Warfvinge earned sixth-place with a time of 7.9.

  • Michael Crorkin (Bronx, NY / Xavier) placed ninth in the men's 600-meters in 1:26.17, while Kim Jelich (Malverne, NY / Valley Stream North) took 10th in the women's 300-meters, finishing in a time of 42.99, a personal best.
