Seawolves down Manhattan in Road Slugfest

BRONX, N.Y. – Behind four players in double figures, led by a season-high 25 points by redshirt junior forward Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England), the Stony Brook men's basketball team extended its winning streak to six in a 69-62 win over Manhattan Wednesday night. The Seawolves came out of the gates hot, building a double-figure lead with 11:38 left in the first half at 18-8. Freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.)drilled three shots from behind the arc in an 11-point first half, helping Stony Brook gain the early advantage. Stony Brook got it done at the charity stripe in the second half, making 20 in a row and starting the half 17-for-17 to be able to fend off the Jaspers comeback attempt. BOALS' REACTION "Coming into the game, we knew it'd be tough to run any offense based on the style of play. They press and trap you the whole game and our players had to make plays. The mental concentration you have to have against Manhattan… you have to be on your game for the entire 40 minutes." HIGHLIGHTS

The Seawolves came out of the gates fast, scoring the game's first eight points. Sophomore Elijah Olaniyi (Newark, N.J.)and Latimer hit from three-point land, while Yeboah scored in close.
Stony Brook's lead got as large as 10 on two different occasions, the latter after Latimer hit his third three of the half at the 11:38 mark, putting the Seawolves ahead 18-8.
The Jaspers cut the lead as close as two with 6:30 left in the first half, but Stony Brook pulled away to take a seven-point advantage into the break.
Manhattan used an 10-0 run to take a 39-37 lead with 14:57 to go in the half after Stony Brook went up 37-29.
The Seawolves scored the next six points in the game to go up four at 43-39 and would use the free throw line to carry the offense the rest of the way.
Stony Brook scored 24 of its 35 points in the second half from the free throw line, hitting just one field goal in the last 8:13.

NOTES

The 34 total free throws made is the 13thmost by a team nationally this season and the most by the Seawolves this season.
Overall, Stony Brook finished the day 34-for-41 from the free throw line to Manhattan's 17-for-23.
Yeboah's 16 made free throws constitute the second-most by a player in the country this season and the second-most by a Seawolves player in the program's Division I history.
His 25 points beat his previous season-high by one, a 24-point outing at South Carolina. It's also the first time since Jan. 18, 2018 that a Stony Brook player had 25 in a game, when he scored 28 against Binghamton.
Manhattan's 27 points at halftime were the fewest by a Seawolves opponent this season.
Freshman Jules Moor (Houston, Texas) recorded his second-career double-digit scoring game, finishing with 10. That matches his career high.
Latimer matched his career high with a trio of triples, ending the night with 13 points. Senior Jaron Cornish (Abaco, Bahamas) completed the double-figure scoring group with 10.
Stony Brook has now won five straight road games this season, which would be tied for sixth entering tonight with Bucknell and Michigan.
