Utica Win's Fourth Straight and Moves into First Place in UCHC Standings

Pittston, PA – Senior captain Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY/Colorado College (NCHC)) posted two third period goals to help seal a 3-0 road victory for the Utica College men's hockey team against host King's College on Saturday night. The Pioneers have now won four in a row and five of their last six, with the lone loss in the stretch coming at the hands of nationally-ranked No. 1 Wisc. Stevens Point. Utica's record improved to 8-5 overall and 7-2 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Pioneers now sit in first place in the conference with 21 points through nine league games after winning a pair of tough road games in Pennsylvania this weekend (at Wilkes and King's). King's saw its record fall to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in UCHC play. UC sophomore sensation Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)) played a part in all three goals for the Pioneers as he finished the night with one goal and two assists. Everson now has 14 points on three goals and a team-best 11 assists this season. After a scoreless first period, Everson got the Pioneers on the board 6:36 into the second frame when found the back of the net off assists from Justin Allen (Rochester, NY/Rochester Monarchs (USPHL-NCDC)) and Shawn Lynch (Syracuse, NY/Ottawa Jr. Senators (CCHL)). The Pioneers eventually figured out King's goalie Brandon Daigle in the third period as Burmaster pushed home two more goals in the first 8:58 of the final period to seal the victory. Daigle finished the night with 54 stops as UC dominated the shot charts with a 57-11 advantage. Everson assisted on both of Burmaster's third period tallies, while Zach Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Gloucester (CCHL)) and Vaden McManus (Fayetteville, NC/Hampton Roads (USPHL)) also posted one assist a piece. Borsoi, the reigning UCHC Player of the Week, ranks third on the team with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and he now has nine points in his last six games. Burmaster remains the team leader in scoring this year with 16 points and he is now tied with freshman Regen Cavanagh(Chesapeake, VA/Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)) for the team lead with eight goals. Cavanagh netted a pair of goals on Friday night to lift the Pioneers to a thrilling last second 2-1 victory over Wilkes University. Utica freshman goalie Sean Dickson (Millbrae, CA/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL-Premier)) picked up his second collegiate shut out as he stopped all 11 shots he faced to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Pioneers return to the ice after break when they host Skidmore College for Boyscout Night at the Adirondack Bank Center at 7 p.m.
