Dean Named to 2018 AFCA All-America Team

WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the 2018 Division III Coaches' All-American Teams on Monday, with Austin Deannamed to the First Team Defense for The College at Brockport football team. Dean has had a standout career with the Green and Gold, but the senior saved the best for last in his final season as a Golden Eagle. In addition to the honor of being named to the First Team AFCA Coaches All-American list, Dean was also selected as the D3football.com 2018 All-East Region Defensive Player of the Year, and also earned the same title within the Empire 8. Dean was a terrifying sight for opponents lined up on the opposite side, as the imposing senior dominated on defense. Dean racked up 49-tackles over the course of 2018, with 20 solo tackles. He accumulated 13-tackles for a loss of 54-yards, picked up 6.5 sacks for a loss of 44-yards and got his hand on two blocked kicks. Dean was an integral part of a nationally acclaimed defensive unit, that lead the way in Division III in several statistical categories. The Green and Gold boasted negative rushing yards for opponents for the majority of the year, and finished the 2018 campaign with allowing a mere 6.8-yards per game to lead the nation in the category. Brockport also led the way in 3rd down conversion percentage with a measly 0.158 for opponents, and finished the year second in total defense, with 209.0. The AFCA All-American Team is the only post season accolade that is selected by the coaches, marking this award as truly significant, as it is selected by the people who know the players the best. The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's eight districts. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions.
