Pace Basketball Teams Cap 2018 With Sunday Road Games
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sunday afternoon marks the final games of the calendar year for both of Pace University's basketball teams. The Setter women travel to take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College, while the men head to Post University. Both contests are set for 1 p.m. starts. Pace and Saint Thomas Aquinas have split their last six matchups, with the Spartans taking the last three. The Setters have been led this season by a balanced attack, featuring three players that are currently averaging double figures. Sophomore Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) is Pace's leading scorer at 12.8 points per game, while Alexandra Montelone and Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack)are posting averages of 11.6 and 10.3 points. DelliSanti, who is shooting nearly 50 percent from the field, is the Setters' top rebounder at 7.0 boards per game. Defense has been key for the Blue and Gold as they are allowing just over 60 points per game, while ranking fifth in the NE10 in steals per contest (8.4). Freshman Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) leads Pace with 19 takeaways. Saint Thomas Aquinas had a six-game winning streak snapped in their last time out, falling at Merrimack by a score of 82-70. The Spartans had won their previous six contests by an average of 21.3 points per game. Post will be Pace's third-consecutive non-conference foe as the Setters have recently defeated NYIT (66-60) and Nyack (84-63). Sophomore Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) has been a catalyst for Pace's hot start, serving as both a scorer and a facilitator. The Setters' point guard is currently averaging a team-high 17.3 points per game, while ranking fourth in the NE10 in assists per contest (5.6). He is also leading the Setters with 29 steals. Junior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) has also put together a strong first 12 games, averaging 16.6 points and 7.4 rebounds (team-high) per contest. Senior Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) comes in as Pace's third-leading scorer (13.1 points), in addition to grabbing 6.8 boards per contest. Post enters Sunday with a record of 2-9, having dropped their previous four matchups. The Eagles' last two defeats came to NE10 foes, AIC (71-70) and Saint Michael's (80-71).
