Four Brewers Named to USA Rugby All-Championship Series Team


POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Four members of the national champion Vassar College women's rugby team have been named to the USA Fall College 2018 Women's D2 All-Championship Series Team. Seniors Oshana Reich (Minneapolis, MN) and Jennie To (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) were honored for the second straight year, and they were joined on the squad by seniors Kaitlin Prado (Fresno, CA) and Kate Sworden (Napoleon, OH). Reich, the Brewers' number eight, led the team with 32 tries during the fall campaign. To, a scrumhalf, and Sworden, a prop, scored 17 tries apiece. Sworden had two tries in the National Championship Game, including the go-ahead score on the final play of the first half. Prado, a prop, also found the try zone twice in the National Championship Game. She finished the fall season with nine tries overall. There were a total of 15 honorees recognized for their play throughout the USA Rugby Fall Nationals. Vassar led all teams with four selections. After beginning the USA Rugby Fall Nationals with a 96-0 rout of Delaware, the Brewers topped Maine (46-12) and Bryant (41-24) to advance to the Final Four. Vassar then advanced to the National Championship Game by knocking off Coast Guard, 43-26, in the National Semifinals. With a 50-13 victory over Winona State in the National Championship Game, the Brewers complete an undefeated 15-0 season and captured Vassar's first-ever national title in any sport.
