UC Rebounds to Split UCHC Series Against Manhattanville
UTICA, NY -- The Utica College women's hockey team earned the regular season split with visiting Manhattanville College following a 2-0 victory in United Collegiate Hockey Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Adirondack Bank Center. Utica's record moved to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in UCHC play. Manhattanville's ledger dropped to 9-3-2 overall and the Valiants were handed their first league loss of the season (6-1-1). Utica goalie Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) was a rock in net all afternoon as she earned her third clean sheet of the season, stopping all 22 shots she faced as she improved her record between the pipes to 8-2 overall. She also held the Valiants to an 0-for-4 effort on the power-play. Leading scorer Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) got the Pioneers on the board early when she tipped home her sixth goal of the season after a shot on net by Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks). Elizabeth Dohner(Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) was also credited with an assist on the first goal of the contest late in the first period of play. Both teams were held scoreless in the second period and the Pioneers were able to put the contest away in the final 20 minute stretch. Nicole Johnson (North Easton, MA/Holderness) capped a great series when she beat a Valiant defender and wristed home her third goal of the season to seal the victory for the Pioneers. Kyra Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Holderness) and Sirena Fitzery (Hamburg, NY/Buffalo Bisons) were each credited with an assist on the final goal of the contest. Manhattanville goalie Rose Pijaca stopped 21 shots in net for the visitors. UC will now hit the road for a four game stretch. The Pioneers, who will play four games in five days this week, will travel to Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania this coming weekend to take on the Dutchwomen in a conference set Friday and Saturday.
