Armstrong, VanDeursen Highlight Day One at Whiteface


unior Carter Armstrong posted his first EISA top-10 finish of the season to lead the St. Lawrence University Alpine Ski team on day one of the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York on Friday afternoon. Armstong shaved nearly one second off his first run of the day to earn seventh place in the men's giant slalom with a time of one minute and 34.24 seconds. Senior captain Jake VanDeursen also posted his first career EISA top-10 finish of the season finishing in 10th place in 1:35.33. Sophomore Tarrah Price led the women's squad with a career-best 20th-place finish in the women's giant slalom with a final time of 1:41.24. First-year Margaux Gilmour posted the next-best result for the women, finishing in 31st place. "We started off this year's carnival season on a positive note with four career-best finishes, with Carter equaling his best collegiate finish and Jake posting a collegiate best," said head coach Willi Steinrotter. "It was great to see Tarrah start the season on a high note, having two quality runs. We're looking forward to tomorrow's giant slalom with the men's and women's teams, who have both been skiing well." Ethan Hejna and Gilmour participated in their first collegiate carnival for the Saints. Up Next – Day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival, Saturday, January 12.
