VanDeursen Podiums at St. Lawrence Carnival

Senior captain Jake VanDeursen posted his first EISA top-5 finish of the season and his career to lead the St. Lawrence University Alpine Ski team on day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York on Saturday afternoon. VanDeursen skied the second-fastest first run of the day in one minute and 4.9 seconds and finished with a final time of 2:11.47 in the men's giant slalom for a career-best third place, earning 44 points for the Saints. VanDeursen's podium finish is a first for the Saints since Graham Scott earned second place in the men's giant slalom at the 2012 Middlebury Carnival/NCAA Eastern Regional Championship. Carter Armstrong posted his second EISA top-10 finish, after earning his second seventh-place finish of the weekend in the men's giant slalom to earn 35 points. First-year Margaux Gilmour posted a new career high on the second day of the carnival, claiming 19th place in the women's giant slalom with a time of 2:24.53 to earn 26 points. Riley Whitney finished in 23rd place to earn 23 points, while Tarrah Price earned 18 points with a 28th-place finish. "Jake and Carter had another successful day on the hill with a career-best for Jake and two top-10 finishes for the pair," said head coach Willi Steinrotter. "We also had another positive day on the women's side with Margaux earning another career-best performance and Riley, Tarrah and Ella having good runs. Overall, we had a great first carnival and are looking forward to next weekend at UNH." After day two both the men's and women's teams finished in fifth place out of 13 teams. St. Lawrence currently sits in sixth place out of 17 teams and will await the results from tomorrow's Nordic races for the final placings.
