Women's Basketball Wins Nine Straight


The Hudson Valley women's basketball team (15-3) extended their streak to nine straight wins following their 90-37 win over Fulton-Montgomery on Monday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY.

Vikings sophomore Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-for-20 from the floor and played only 26 minutes in the win. Taylor also had it rolling from behind the arc as she led the team with three three-point field goals.

Hudson Valley jumped out to a big 20-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Caitlin Estes (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) and Engster played an important role in the Vikings early run as they each tallied four steals, which led to quick fast break buckets on the offensive end. As a team, Hudson Valley finished with 13 total steals.

The Vikings held Fulton-Montgomery to 19.5 percent shooting from the floor and caused 25 turnovers with their defensive traps and active hands in the passing lanes.

Madison Graber (Schenectady/Schalmont) had a quiet 18 points off the bench in 21 minutes of game action. Graber shot 8-for-11 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds for Hudson Valley. Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) scored nine points and had a career night as she finished with a career-best nine assists. Kreiger also added seven rebounds and hit a pair of three-point field goals.

The women's program goes for their 10thconsecutive win this Saturday, January 26 as they welcome Herkimer to the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
