Monroe Mustangs Baseball Ranked No. 14 in NJCAA Preseason Poll for Highest NJCAA Ranking in Program
CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 22, 2019 – The 2019 Monroe College Mustangs baseball season is still a few weeks away, but the Mustangs are already continuing 2018's run of historical moments. The Mustangs come into the 2019 campaign as the No. 14-ranked team in the NJCAA, as announced in the 2019 NJCAA Division I Baseball Preseason Rankings, which were unveiled by the NJCAA on Tuesday. This is the program's highest ever NJCAA ranking and the team's first appearance in the NJCAA Preseason Poll. In the NJCAA's final Div. I rankings of the 2018 season, the Mustangs ranked No. 20 heading into the JUCO World Series, the team's first-ever national ranking. Monroe is also the only team in the Northeast District to earn a spot in the preseason poll. The Mustangs also earned national recognition in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NJCAA 2019 Div. I Preseason Poll, coming in at No. 9 in the rankings. The Mustangs finished 37-16-1 overall in 2018. Monroe hosted the 2018 NJCAA Div. I Region XV Championship series against ASA College, sweeping the Avengers in three games to earn the region title. The Mustangs the hosted the 2018 NJCAA Div. I Northeast District Championship tournament, which Monroe won for the first time after going a perfect 3-0.
