MEN'S LACROSSE PICKED 1ST IN AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the seventh consecutive season, the University at Albany men’s lacrosse team has been picked to win the America East in the league’s annual preseason poll.

The Great Danes, nine-time league champions who are coming off the program’s first NCAA Championship Weekend appearance, received three first-place votes in the poll that’s voted on by the league’s head coaches, who cannot vote for their own teams.

While it is certainly nice to be recognized," Head Coach Scott Marr said, "our team realizes and is prepared for the challenges we face to be No. 1 at the end of the season."

UAlbany won its second straight America East title in 2019 and swept the league’s major awards. Among the Great Danes’ returnees is sophomore attack Tehoka Nanticoke, the reigning conference Rookie of the Year. The Great Danes bring back five All-League players to a team that finished 16-3.

Earlier this preseason, the Great Danes were ranked No. 17 nationally in the Nike/US Lacrosse poll and No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse Face-off Yearbook rankings.

UAlbany opens the season Saturday, Feb. 16, at Syracuse.

The America East’s regular-season champion will host the league tournament May 2 and 4.
