Whimple Breaks 26-Year Old School Triple Jump Record At Prestigious John Thomas Terrier Classic


BOSTON, Ma. – Freshman Victoria Whimple (Castleton, N.Y. / Maple Hill) broke the Plattsburgh State women's indoor track and field triple jump record at the prestigious John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Friday. Whimple finished seventh with a mark of 37' 11.5" which breaks the old record of 37' 5" that was set back in 1993. Whimple also ran a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.83 seconds to finish 24th. Junior Marissa Jones (Sauquoit, N.Y. / Sauquoit Valley) ran a season best in the 400-meters with a time of 59.4 seconds to take 45th and was 71st in the 200-meters with a time of 26.31. Sophomore Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y. / Saranac Central) recorded a mark of 16' 8.00" in the long jump to take 28th. Junior Elisabeth Plympton (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) finished 16th in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.99 seconds. Barber ran a 26.05 in the 200-meters to take 54th while Plympton was 57th with a time of 26.09 seconds. Junior Brianna Coon (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) threw 47' 1.75" in weight throw to place 16th and was 17th in shot put with a mark of 38' 9.00". Junior Kristina Watrobski (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) crossed the finish line of the one mile in 5:18.68 to take 64th. The Cardinals are at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday with events starting at 10 a.m.
