Men’s Basketball To Host RMU On Saturday In 4:00 PM Senior Day Send-off


Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's basketball team will host Robert Morris in its regular season finale on Saturday, March 2 in a 4:00 p.m. Senior Day Tip-off. Senior Day The Seahawks, who will be seeking a regular season sweep of the Colonials, will honor a pair of graduating senior guards in Elijah Davis and Devin Liggeons in a pre-game ceremony.

Bashir Mason a Perfect Seven Straight NEC Berths

*Wagner head coach Bashir Mason has now led the Seahawks to a berth in the NEC Tournament in each of his seven seasons at the helm of the Seahawk program. As a program, the Green & White have qualified for nine consecutive NEC appearances. In the 2019 NEC Tourney, which begins with the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 6, Wagner can finish either with the No. 6 or the No. 7 seed.. *Robert Morris enters Saturday's play with an overall record of 15-15 and a 10-7 mark in the Northeast Conference (NEC), which places the Colonials in a third-place tie with Sacred Heart. *Wagner is 13-15 overall and in a tie for sixth in the NEC standings with LIU Brooklyn, as the Seahawks and Blackbirds own matching 8-9 conference marks. *The Green & White saw their hopes of earning a top-four seed, and resultant quarterfinal home game in next week's NEC Tournament, come to an end with Thursday's 83-72 home loss to first-place Saint Francis U. *Also on Thursday night, RMU, who sat atop the NEC standings for much of the year, dropped their fourth game in its last six, falling at Sacred Heart by an 87-63 count. Midway through the second half, Robert Morris appeared to be on the verge of breaking it open after a Sayveon McEwen layup gave the Colonials their biggest lead of the game at 40-28. *At the 9:35 mark, Saunders stemmed the tide by driving in for an old-fashioned three-point play in triggering a 12-2 Seahawk run that was capped by another Saunders layup, this one at the 7:07 mark, that made it a 42-40 game. With Wagner now back in it, the game remained a hard-nosed affair the rest of the way. *At the 2:42 mark, Saunders knocked down an elbow jumper that drew the Seahawks to within three at 46-43. Wagner got to within two points at 47-45 with 1:32 remaining following pair of free throws from senior guard Elijah Davis. *With 1:00 left to play, Jon Williams hit a big jumper in traffic that pushed the lead back to four at 49-45. Following a missed layup by Saunders at the 38-second mark, Josh Williams sank a pair of free throws seven seconds later to make it 51-45, and the Colonials were able to escape from there.
