WILSON AND MURPHY SET TO COMPETE AT NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
BIRMINGHAM, AL- Graduate student Allie Wilson and redshirt senior Corey Murphy will represent Monmouth at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. Murphy will be competing in the shot put tomorrow night at 8:20 PM while Allie Wilson's semifinal heat is set to take off at 8:17 PM. The two become the 5th and 6th Monmouth athletes to compete at the Indoor National Championships. All races and field events will broadcast live on ESPN3 and the ESPN app. Wilson will become the first female Monmouth student athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Mariah Troussaint earned 2nd Team All-America honors in the long jump in 2014. Wilson qualifies for her first Indoor National Championship after running the second fastest 800-meter time (2:02.76) in the NCAA at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. The Wallingford, Pennsylvania native finished the 2018 outdoor season as a second team All-American in the 800 meters after finishing 11th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Wilson's semifinal heat is slated for 8:17 PM and should she finish in the top eight, Wilson will compete again Saturday at 6:30 PM in the 800-meter finals. Murphy is set to compete at his first ever NCAA Championships for both indoor or outdoor and becomes the first Monmouth shot putter to compete since Jon Kalnas in 2002. The Yaphank, New York native qualified with a mark of 64'6" to win at the MAAC Championships last month. He goes into the championships ranked 12th in the NCAA and is set to compete against the nation's best at 8:20 PM beginning with the preliminaries then immediately followed by the finals.
