Men's Basketball is Back in the Big Dance; Will Face Daemen in First Round


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the eighth time in program history, the University of New Haven men's basketball team will play for a national championship earning the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II East Region Championship. The Saint Anselm Hawks were selected as the No. 1 seed and will host the eight-team regional tournament.

As the fourth seed, the Chargers will face the fifth-seeded Daemen Wildcats in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 16. Overall, New Haven returns to the NCAA Division II Championship for the third time under head coachTed Hotaling and the first time since the 2012-13 season.

The Chargers advance to the national tournament with a 20-9 overall record, all of which came against East region competition. Leading the Blue and Gold into the regional championship is junior guard Elijah Bailey(Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School), a First Team All-Conference selection who is averaging 19.2 points per game, one of four players averaging double figures. Overall, Bailey has scored in double figures in 25 games including 16 games with 20+ and seven 25+ performances.
