Marcelle Sets 200m Record to Highlight Monroe Men’s Outdoor Track and Field’s Final Day at Raleigh R


RALEIGH, N.C., March 31, 2019 – Phillip Marcelle set a new program record in the 200-meter dash, highlighting the Monroe College men's outdoor track and field team's final day at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University. Marcelle ran a time of 20.97 seconds in the 200m, breaking the Monroe College record in the event. His time was good for second place on the day, and also qualified him for the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. Kurt Modeste took sixth place overall in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 21.29 to also qualify for the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. Bervensky Pierre was close behind in eighth with a qualifying time of 21.43. The men's 4x100m relay team of Pierre, Lloyd McCurdy, Kwasi Issac and Giano Roberts ran a time of 41.93 seconds, missing NJCAA qualifying by one-hundredth of a second. The 4x400m relay team of Christopher Spellman, Pierre, Roberts and Ka'Jon Parris finished the race in 3:22.16. The 4x800m relay team of Parris, Thapelo Makofane, Shaquille Barzey and Phelani Maduwa earned NJCAA qualification after clocking in at 7:52.68. The Mustangs will compete next in the Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William & Mary, from April 4-6 in Williamsburg, Va.
