Women's Lacrosse Wins Shootout Against Canisius


POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Behind its best offense performance of the season, Marist dispatched Canisius 19-14 at Tenney Stadium Wednesday afternoon. Kelly George led a balanced offense with a career high 11 points from five goals and six assists. Marist improves to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

STRONG

  • Canisius opened up the contest with a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of play. The Marist offense found its stride and went on a 9-1 run. During the run, six different Red Foxes scored and Samantha Mehalick tallied an early hat trick.

  • The Golden Griffins finally stopped the run with back to back goals to cut Marist's lead but George and Audrey Cerrone teamed up to score two more and take an 11-5 lead into the locker room.

  • Canisius opened up the second half by winning the first three draw controls and scoring on all three possessions to cut Marist's lead and force a time out. Coming out of the timeout, Marist score three more goals to take a 14-8 lead. While Canisius was within reach of Marist throughout the second half, the Golden Griffins were not able to cut Marist's lead down to under three.
