SAINT FRANCIS U MEN END NEC OUTDOOR TITLE DROUGHT
New Britain, CT - 50 cent's "In Da Club" was atop the Billboard Music Charts the last time that Saint Francis U finished atop the NEC Outdoor Track & Field team standings. Now, as Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" tops the chart, the Red Flash are No. 1 again. Carrying over the momentum from a strong showing at February's indoor title meet, Saint Francis U fevrishly piled up 140 points on Championship Sunday to separate itself from the rest. The Red Flash finished with a two-day total of 192 points to secure their first team title since 2003. Meet host Central Connecticut, which had won four consecutive NEC outdoor team titles from 2014-2017, posted a 150 team score to take second place. Mount St. Mary's, the 2018 outdoor champion, took third place with 141 points. Saint Francis U's team victory was powered by a trio of major individual award winners, who combined for 69 points. Senior Dashaun Jackson captured the Most Valuable Performer award. Senior Benjamin Ross secured the Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws) award. On the heels of his 100-200 sprint double victory, sophomore Christopher Frederick earned the Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints) honor.
